Present etiquette

Didn't even know there was such a thing! Our hints are a good starting point and if you think about them further, they provide the foundation reasons for the evolution of this site. Go straight to the hints or read on to find out how The Present Knowledge also works for the environment!

TPK - the environmentally friendly way of giving

Unlike other gift orientated websites The Present Knowledge is strongly supportive of environmental issues. A big aim of ours in putting the website together is to help reduce the waste that is created solely around giving and receiving presents. I bet you are wondering how this works....

By keeping your present knowledge up to date and circulating your password to friends and family this will result in.

  • Returns of unsuitable gifts will be reduced resulting in fewer vehicles on the road at any one time.
  • Individuals will spend less time with retailers at customer service desks handling returned gifts.
  • If you are raising money for a charity or organisation you can spread the word, help and ideas can then be channelled where you'd like.
  • Monetary gifts are not for everyone The Present Knowledge can help you to let others now your current requests.
  • Less food wasted if your food likes and dislikes are known.

    Hints

Don't expect that by completing your present knowledge updates that you will receive more presents from new people. Only send your password to people who already buy presents for you.

Be as specific as possible in detailing what presents you would like and where to get them from, estimated cost would be helpful too.

When buying for others try to get them what you think they would like not what you would like.

Don't buy household/domestic appliances for special occasions unless specifically asked for.

Whilst the free time gift vouchers are great ideas don't bombard people with too many offers of help, there's a fine line to being helpful and a nuisance.

Give your presents tastefully; a present beautifully wrapped makes all the difference.

Don't give a gift experience present when you know it's a fear or phobia. Giving someone a balloon ride will not overcome his or her fear of heights.
